I have now seen Spooks episode 5 of series 5, called "The Message".

That's all I'm prepared to put before the cut, take note other spoiler-posting people :-) )

In almost completely unrelated fannishness, I think that I am much more a Doctor/Donna 'shipper than a Doctor/Anyone else 'shipper because I fancy Catherine Tate much more than I fancy the other actors/characters. At least she's not (quite) old enough to be my mother. Unlike Sela Ward, who is, in fact, older than my mother.

I have now seen "Turn Left".

Several short comments, in handy bullet point form (now with actual bullet points).

Spoilers for Doctor Who 4.11 and the trailer for 4.12 )

So, the HP prequel thing is alive and out in the world. I'm so far behind fandom I'd forgotten that it was even in the works.

Waterstones - for the original, chose "read out authors' stories." I liked Neil Gaiman's, didn't get Nick Hornby's, and loved Tom Stoppard's.

For the HP story, there's a transcript here by [info]mmichelle, because JRK has very messy handwriting.

Um, I'm sure there was something else I was supposed to post about. Ooo, yes.

* The Poodle has the flu, which means her recent decline has been a treatable cold and not arthritis or general old age. P took her to the vet yesterday and she tablets to take and her bark back.

* Today is my forth last day at First-job, ever. We all had morning tea yesterday because Boss (who's no longer actually my boss) is going overseas on Sunday. One of the others asked if I was taking a leave of absence from here. Not at all. It never even crossed my mind. I have resigned!

* I have seen all of this season of Doctor Who so far. And, from the what I've picked up from my friendslist, I think I am glad not to be an active part of Who fandom. But I have also just written a Mickey/Jake story that I need to work out whether it works or not. I think it's still at the "not yet" stage.

* P and L are talking about possibly selling the house before I get back from overseas. This is v. exciting. But it also means I have to do a more thorough inventory and audit of my stuff before I leave. Goodness I have a lot of stuff.

* Also, I currently have [info]the_fibber's The Vicar of Dibley DVDs.

Three days of posts in one [3rd April , 2008|08:59 pm]

[Music |Life on Mars: Series 2 Episode 8]

I wrote most of the following over the past two days. But then never posted it, because it's long and rambley and possibly not very good. I'm posting it now because I want to have said it more than the typing itself takes care of.

I am sick. This is both good and bad. I dislike being sick, but I am actually sick - low grade Flu-like thing - so I have a medical certificate getting me off work for three days. Woohoo! I need the money, but I'm really not up to being pleasant and approachable and competent for four hours in an air-conditioned office to people who have waited weeks to reschedule a technical appointment that's being held up be our computer system.

That's phone-job, where I need a medical certificate to have not shown up.

I don't need a medical certificate for First-job. I just need to sound poorly when I talk to Boss. This is not an act. I did go in on Wednesday because she called me when I was watching Heist on Tuesday. I got my pay cheque signed (for all the time I worked between the second pay in December and the last pay in February, so it was worth it).

I also wanted to say that I am very sorry about [info]anjenue. I thought I did not know her at all, but I do remember the name rosesanguina. I've read [info]nimori's posts and will pass on the link to [info]we_love_you_anj.

Some thoughts on internet death )

Thinky thoughts.
Now I have to try to get my head into a space for writing remix.

Also it was April Fool's Day recently. I'm not sure exactly when because it happened on the internet the day after it happened here. Nothing happened to me at all in flesh-space. But the best online thing was Questionable Content, xkcd and Dinosaur Comics pointing to each other.

In a last note before I return to writing the remix and making sure I have all the paperwork for my US Visa application interview which is tomorrow:

The Hugo Award nominees list is out )

This is meta, kind of [7th September , 2007|04:34 pm]

[Music |Gosford Park]

The second week of August was International Blog Against Racism week.
I was going to do it this year, I was even going to delay the still unwritten "Gender Normativity and Trans-phobia in Torchwood" meta to do it.
But then I didn't.

Thankfully (that's the wrong word, if one think about it) IBARW is an opportunity to post, not a limit on posting. So I'm starting now, because I was at work until 7 yesterday waiting for emails to be scanned by Nortons, and the best thing to read at time like that is posts from the [info]ibarw link round ups.

How quickly can I dig this hole )

To sum up: I, by my personal preference, am more interested in discussing what sort of world Firefly portrays where the main characters encounter so few Asian people, despite the assmiliation of Western (American) and Asian (Chinese) cultures. I am more interested in discussing how what does or does not happen to Martha and the Doctor is illustrative of what should or should not happen in cross-cultural and mixed race relationships generally. I, by my personal preference, am less interested in talking about what Joss Whedon and Russel T Davies were or were not thinking of when they did or did not do the things they've done in their shows.

Stay turned for the tangential issue of why race is always an issue, and how the New Who fandom and discussion of Martha's characterisation/role/storyarc is illustrative of this.

World Con - Hugo Awards [2nd September , 2007|10:31 am]

[Mood | excited]

Steven Moffat won the Best Dramatic Presentation (Short Form) for "The Girl in the Fireplace"!
He won it last year for "The Empty Child"/"The Doctor Dances".

Woohoo!

I get to see Blink, um, sometime this afternoon. (Fingers crossed for a nomination for next year - the WorldCon's in Colorado, basically the same time as Terminus. I may get a pass to the first day, mostly just to vote in the awards.)

I only just remembered to tape Doctor Who last night, too.

Pan's Labyrinth won Best Long Form Dramatic Presentation.
Naomi Novik won the Campbell for Best New Writer for His Majesty's Dragon. Beating Scott Lynch and Sarah Monette, I think.

I didn't know any of the other names.

Edited to correct the spelling of Steven Moffat's name. Because I fail at fangirling. (Should that have a double l?)

[Music |Divine Comedy: Gin Soaked Boy]

On roleplaying )

I have a couple of requests.

1. Is anyone up for beta-ing the Remus/Sirius-y Post DH fic with spoilers? It's really Remus/Sirius. And it does have Remus/Tonks.

2. Is anyone able to upload/send/recommend any Divine Comedy songs? It takes five minutes to download a song, so I rarely take them from big lists unless I already know the artist and want the song. But then [info]ignipes uploaded Gin-Soaked Boy because it should be a Doctor Who vid, and I've been listening to it on repeat since. I also have an iTunes card and am more than happy to buy recommended songs.

3. I now have a digital camera. So is there anything you would me to take a photo of?

4. I have four episodes left to watch in series three of Doctor Who. Blink is on tomorrow. I have two episodes of Torchwood left, although I haven't seen all of Combat, which was on on Wednesday, yet. So, please, just be aware that these are not spoiler free shows. I don't know anymore than I'm happy knowing, and no one has done anything to upset me. But I thought that I would just mention it.
